What is ABA??
"Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the science in which the principles of the analysis of behavior are applied systematically to improve socially significant behavior and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for behavior change."
~Cooper, Heron, Heward (2007)

So what does that mean for you??
~The use of behavior analysis principles to help people improve significant behavior, the experimentation to figure out what's causing the behavior, and then work on changing it. ABA has been super helpful in treating all kinds of behavioral disorders and making life better for people and families.

What are these behavior analytic principles??
~Based on Bear, Wolf, and Risley (1968) there are 7 dimensions of Behavior analysis.
1. Applied: teaches functional/applicable skill to better daily life
2. Behavioral: focus on readily observable behaviors
3. Analytic: use graphs to visually analyze behavior change
4. Generalizable: expands across locations, skills, etc.
5. Effective: a sizable behavior change occurs
6. Technological: Procedures are clearly and concisely explained
7. Conceptually Systematic: interventions are consistent with behavior analytic principles

How do you break down behavior??
~All behavior is broken down into 3 components. Changing antecedents and consequences surrounding the behavior will increase or decrease the likelihood of that behavior occurring again in the future.
Antecedent:
What happens right before the Behavior
Behavior:
Action being readily observed
Consequence:
What happens immediately after the behavior.
